The Kinesis Approach
to Physical Therapy
What is Pilates-based Physical Therapy?
Pilates-based physical therapy combines the traditional Pilates method with the knowledge and hands-on application of a professional Physical Therapist. In essence, it is the best of both worlds. The Pilates principle of core stabilization addresses posture, muscle performance and motor control - the same concepts that form the basis of most traditional orthopedic rehabilitation and therapy programs. Increasingly, Physical Therapists are incorporating Pilates into their rehabilitation programs. The primary causes of many injuries are muscle imbalances, muscle weakness, and faulty movement patterns. Pilates is ideally suited to address these issues because it is a low-impact exercise system that utilizes safe, controlled movements to build strength and flexibility while promoting proper alignment and posture. Pilates relies on precision of movement and recruitment of the appropriate muscle groups to execute the movements.
Pilates is an effective and non-invasive tool for rehabilitation because it addresses and strengthens the entire body as a cohesive unit. Pilates-based physical therapy is more efficient and can be accomplished in less time than traditional therapy. It focuses on treating the whole body to restore proper movement patterns, which results in balanced musculatures, heightened body awareness, and fluid movement.

The Kinesis Approach to Pilates-based Physical Therapy
At Kinesis, we treat the whole body, not just an injury or symptom. We are particularly adept at analyzing and correcting maladaptive movement patterns and muscle recruitment sequences that can cause you pain. We believe that you can feel better when you move better.
Your entire treatment session will be spent with the Physical Therapist. We do not use technicians, aides or athletic trainers to assist in treatment, nor do we use modalities such as heat/ice, ultrasound, or electrical stimulation. We rely on our diagnostic skills, manual therapy skills and knowledge in treating the entire body rather than simply treating the injured area.
